John Burns Construction Co.

Chicago Offices

2016

Built within the western half of an existing early 20th century warehouse building, this 5,000 square foot space serves as the Chicago location for John Burns Construction Company.

A robust timber frame structure, 14 foot high ceilings, and large metal frame windows form the bones of the building which we chose to respect and consider as we developed the interior. Existing walls, ceilings, and floors were left untouched while freestanding boxes and partitions were installed to subdivide the space.

The office space was designed in a contemporary style, but incorporates a variety of reclaimed materials intended to complement the existing fir columns and exposed brick interior walls. Frameless tempered glass partitions and doors are used often within the office to define spaces without detracting from the floor plan's open nature.
